Sashi's winemaking experience began in 1996, when he moved to Ojai, California, to complete a five-year apprenticeship with Adam Tolmach at the Ojai Vineyard. Since leaving the Ojai Vineyard, Sashi has been employed as the winemaker for Stolpman Vineyards, where he continues to develop the winemaking program and improve the estate's vineyard management and infrastructure. In conjunction with his work at Stolpman Vineyards, Sashi also works closely with several other wine projects in the area, including his own label, Piedrasassi, which he shares with his winemaking partner Peter Hunken.
"My winemaking philosophy comes from my cooking background and my deep appreciation for the artisan. Cooking allowed me to discover intimately what is the foregone conclusion to all gastronomes: that food and wine are inextricably linked to each other, and also to the quality of their ingredients and the skill and passion of its crafting."
